When it comes to our employees and our clients, SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY- A POLICY SET IN CONCRETE!  Landmark Construction employes a Safety Director, Bob Haltom, to oversee sound and safe construction practices at each site.  We conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and host quarterly safety orientations.  Our firm has a bilingual safety assistant program and a safety incentive system is in place.

At Landmark we believe that safety comes before anything and it must come from the top. From the top, the Owners of Landmark Construction unconditionally support the Safety Program.

 

Heading this effort is our President and Vice President who make it clear through their actions that safety is of the up most importance. Landmark employs Bob Haltom as their Safety Director who has over thirty years of construction safety experience.

 

Many components comprise the Safety Program, some include application of Regulatory Laws such as Mine Safety MSHA, State and Federal OSHA, National Fire  NFPA,  National Electrical NEC,  National Institute NIOSH and  Military EM385 1-1. Hazard Identification/Inspection - our supervisors and each crew members are trained, at hire and as often as deemed necessary but no less than quarterly on the recognition and avoidance of unsafe conditions and the regulations applicable to his or her work environment to control or eliminate hazards. Compliance is monitored by constant review and audit by Landmark’s Safety Director, it’s Supervisors and Landmark’s Client‘s.

We maintain professional memberships with Carolinas Associated General Contractors, American Society of Safety Engineers, South Carolina Safety and Health Council, International Risk Management Association, Board of Certified Safety Professionals, National Safety Council, IS Net World and Browz in efforts to maintain our understandings of and leading edge in safety applications. Our tools include Landmark’s Safety and Health Procedures Manual, Safety Information Manual, Material Safety Data Sheets Manual, Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, OSHA 1926 and 1910 Standards Manuals, ANSI Standards, MSHA Standards, NEC Codes, NIOSH Standards and our P&C insurance company’s  Loss Control Representative

 

We are the proud recipients of the following awards, South Carolina Department of Labor’s Safety Achievement Award, Associated General Contractor’s Outstanding Safety Performance Award and the South Carolina Safety Council’s Achievement Award.  

 

Our safety statistics are growing in a positive manner in direction with our actions as are defined in our goals for each year.  Our last Lost Workday Incident Case was November 20, 2006, more than 400,000  man hours ago. Our LWR rate is 0. The National Average Rate is 3.2 (Bureau of Labor Statistic or BLS)   our Recordable Incident Rate for 2008 is .53, the National Average Rate is 5.9 to 8.9 depending on the construction services provided (BLS). Our EMR is at .88 for 2008 (12 % below baseline,) next year, insurance adjusters predict it to be .66 for the year 09. Our keys to success are our Upper Management Support, through attitude, accountability and finance. Our Front Line Support (Foremen and Superintendents) following through with upper management edict on safety and Employee Buy In (participation and understanding) and a Comprehensive Program.
